Text Box: The Service
The South Coast Medical Service Aboriginal Corporation is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation managed by the community for the community. The service became incorporated in 1983 , one year after it commenced operating in the South Coast Region.
 
The Vision
 
The South Coast Medical Service Aboriginal Corporation will work with Aboriginal Communities to provide a quality culturally appropriate health service, which promotes the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities residing in the Shoalhaven region.
 
The Aim
SCMSAC aims to improve the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal people in the region through capacity building, enhancement of quality and culturally sensitive practices and services.
 
This Aim incorporates the following key goals
 
· Improve the health and well being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islanders in the Shoalhaven community.
· Provide a quality, comprehensive and culturally appropriate range of primary health services that meet the needs of the community.
· Provide health education programs which promote a healthy lifestyle and also address the most serious health issues for the Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islanders in the Shoalhaven community.
· Promote health and wellbeing through capacity building of quality and culturally sensitive practices and services
· Improve opportunities for appropriate and a more effective referral systems between services.
 
The work of SCMSAC is organised into Sections comprising Administration; Medical and Dental Services; OOHC & Family Health Services; and Regional Substance Use & Wellbeing Services. SCMSAC has achieved significant development and delivery of health programs to the communities through these Sections over the past 12 months.
