Sorry Day Event 2019 @ Moorhouse Park to Bomaderry Homes, Beinda St Bomaderry

South Coast Medical Service Aboriginal Corporation wishes to invite you to join us in mourning and celebrating National Sorry Day 2019. National Sorry Day is a very significant day for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, particularly for Stolen Generations survivors and their families. National Sorry Day events are often held during May each year to acknowledge and recognise members of the Stolen Generations. The first Sorry Day was the 26th May 1998, one year after the Bringing Them Home Report was tabled in Federal Parliament. The Bomaderry Aboriginal Children’s Home in the Shoalhaven was mentioned in the Bringing Them Home Report (1997) as an institution that housed Indigenous children removed from their families. The United Aborigines Mission established Bomaderry Aboriginal Children’s Home in 1908, this was the home for many children aged under 10 years up until 1980.

The Reconciliation Walk will depart at 11am from Moorhouse Park, 1 Scenic Drive Nowra, over the Nowra Bridge to the Bomaderry Homes, 59 Beinda Street Bomaderry.

SCMSAC are proud to host this event in collaboration with the Children of the Bomaderry Aboriginal Homes Inc. (CBAH), Nowra Local Aboriginal Lands Council and other local services that wish to partake and support. We would like to extend the invitation to local communities, schools and organisations to take part in the walk to share and learn more about the history of the Stolen Generation and particularly the stories of the Bomaderry Homes, and its role in further education and healing for our younger generations.

If you would like to register to attendance and or support this event, please contact Sharlene Cruickshank on (02) 4448 02 00 or email sharlene@southcoastams.org.au  Bring along your Didge or Clapsticks!
