South Coast Medical Service Aboriginal Corporation (SCMSAC) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled organisation that provides health and welfare services, primarily to the Aboriginal Community across South East NSW.

SCMSAC has been funded by Juvenile Justice (NSW Government) to deliver the Joint Support Program with young people under the supervision of Juvenile Justice within the community who have been assessed as having a medium to high level of offending related risk and need. The Justice Support Program will assist juvenile offenders leaving detention to overcome offending behaviour and re-integrate into the community. The SCMSAC will deliver two components of the JSP program (Casework Support and Relationship Intervention) across the Far South Coast and Southern Tablelands region of Southern NSW. The primary aim of the Justice Support Program is to assist young people to establish a healthy pro-social lifestyle and prevent reoffending.

KEY COMPETENCIES

Essential Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:

  • Clear understanding of the needs of families and young people involved in the criminal justice system.
  • Ability to develop professional working relationships and work effectively with young people with challenging behaviours and their families.
  • Demonstrated experience in the delivery of casework, case management and or counselling services including relevant tertiary qualifications in Justice, Welfare, Community Services, Social Work, Counselling or related area.
  • Effective conflict resolution skills, negotiation, mediation and decision making skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously including excellent organisational skills and capacity to prioritise competing demands.
  • Good literacy, written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with people at all levels, collect statistical data and write reports.
  • Computer proficiency, including the use of Microsoft Office Programs and demonstrated experience using client information management systems.
  • Ability to work sensitively with Aboriginal and culturally and linguistically diverse people.
  • Clear Working with Children Check and Criminal Record Check
  • Current NSW Driver’s License and the willingness to work flexible hours and travel to different locations within the local service area, including some overnight travel.

DESIRABLE:

  • Aboriginality is desirable

Salary will be in accordance with the South Coast Medical Service Aboriginal Corporation Enterprise Agreement 2012 – 2015.
