PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The Oral Health/Dental Therapist is responsible for the provision of dental care within the relevant states scope of Practice for Dental Therapists. The position holder will deliver a variety of high quality oral health clinical services to eligible clients, including provide dental health promotion and education programs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
    • Perform dental examinations and treatments to ensure SCMSAC clients receive appropriate oral health care services.
    • Ensure that all clinical services provided are consistent and comply with the NSW Health Priority Oral Health Program and List Management Protocols.
    • Provide patients with adequate information to enable them to make informed decisions regarding dental/oral health treatment in accordance with policy.
    • Examine patients presenting for care, diagnose their dental/oral conditions, prescribe and carry out, or direct others in carrying out, appropriate dental/oral treatment, or refer patients for specialty consultation or treatment in conformance with approved clinical protocols and guidelines.
    • Maintain concise, complete and accurate clinical patient dental records.
    • Follow Dental Infection Control procedures as per ADA requirements.
    • Maintain your registration as a Dental/Oral Health Therapist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) at all times.
    • Provide significant emphasis on oral health education at individual dental consultations.
    • Ensure appropriate referral of clients for specialist services for further examination and treatment, including x-ray requests forms and referral letters where appropriate.
    • Provide professional guidance and support for dental assistants.
    • In consultation with your Supervisor, participate in health promotion activities to promote dental services and oral health educational messages to the public.
    • Attend relevant meetings. Be punctual, prepared, and ready to participate.
    • Actively participate in monthly documented support and supervision sessions.
    • Participate in relevant annual performance reviews.
    • Other duties as reasonably directed by the CEO or delegate.

        Salary will be in accordance with the South Coast Medical Service Aboriginal Corporation Enterprise Agreement 2012 – 2015.
