PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

This position contributes to the achievement of organizational objectives, including improved Health and Wellbeing outcomes for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people of the Shoalhaven and South Coast region.

Specifically, The Project Officer will be required to work as part of a responsive and dedicated Health & Wellbeing team and will assist the Project Coordinator to deliver the activities aimed at reducing tobacco smoking rates and improving health outcomes among Aboriginal communities. The position will work within a multifaceted team to develop, implement, and evaluate evidence-based activities that relates to health promotion initiatives on chronic disease awareness and smoking cessation services/treatments available across the Shoalhaven, Eurobodalla and Bega Valley regions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
  • Plan, deliver and evaluate annual World No Tobacco Day events in TIS Service Delivery Area.
  • Plan, deliver and evaluate a minimum of four Anti-smoking, Vaping and Chronic Disease education workshops targeting young people attending high schools, Primary Schools, youth groups and community groups.
  • Develop and disseminate resources that contain anti-smoking information, such as harms associated with smoking, environmental and passive smoking, Vaping, Chronic disease and smoking whilst pregnant.
  • Develop and maintain networks with local Aboriginal communities to encourage participation and ensure activities are tailored to community needs.
  • Evaluate all TIS and Health related activities by conducting pre and post surveys.
  • Conduct community survey to increase awareness of Harms associated with tobacco use, vaping and chronic disease.
  • Plan, deliver and evaluate four community activity/events per year relevant to tobacco use and chronic disease.
  • Plan, deliver and evaluate targeted Aboriginal QUIT groups.
  • Facilitate the planning and delivery of network meetings with relevant stakeholders quarterly.
  • Create social media campaign concepts monthly and provide to your coordinator by the end of each month for approval.
  • Attendance at annual jurisdictional meeting and monthly Placeholder TIS meetings
  • Collect and enter data daily regarding program activity development and delivery.
  • Attend relevant meetings. Be punctual, prepared, and ready to participate.
  • Attend support and supervision sessions monthly.
  • Participate in relevant annual performance reviews

Salary will be in accordance with the South Coast Medical Service Aboriginal Corporation Enterprise Agreement 2019-2022.
